Karun Chandhok believes Cadillac should consider Liam Lawson as a potential partner for Sergio Pérez if the New Zealander becomes available for 2027.

Speaking on Sky Sports F1, in comments reported by RacingNews365, Chandhok questioned the prospect of Lawson losing his Racing Bulls seat and argued that Cadillac should assess him alongside Colton Herta.

The suggestion is a pundit’s recommendation, rather than confirmation of negotiations or a vacancy.

Racing Bulls faces three drivers for two seats

Lawson’s position depends on a wider decision within Red Bull’s driver programme. Formula 1’s recent reporting identifies Lawson, Arvid Lindblad and Formula 2 contender Nikola Tsolov as candidates for Racing Bulls’ two seats.

With Isack Hadjar already confirmed alongside Max Verstappen at the senior team, the available routes within the organisation are limited.

Our earlier coverage of Tsolov’s challenge to Lawson’s Racing Bulls place traced the competition developing within the junior programme.

Lawson has continued to make his case through regular points finishes and his substitute appearances for the injured Hadjar. In comments published by Formula 1, he said he felt he had delivered a strong season and was concentrating on performance rather than the seat decision.

Collins highlights experience as well as results

Bernie Collins supported Chandhok’s suggestion, arguing that Lawson’s experience with both Racing Bulls and Red Bull could help Cadillac develop its car.

Her assessment focused on the technical understanding he would bring alongside his race performances. That remains an argument for considering him, rather than evidence that a move is being arranged.

Cadillac has also featured in reporting on Yuki Tsunoda’s options following his cancelled IndyCar test. For Lawson, any alternative would first depend on how Racing Bulls resolves its line-up.
