Aston Martin set to lose long-serving engineer

Tom McCullough is set to leave Aston Martin at the end of the season, F1.com understands, bringing an end to more than a decade with the organisation through its Force India, Racing Point and Aston Martin eras.

McCullough has held a variety of positions during that time, most notably in trackside performance. His departure comes as Aston Martin continues to rebuild its competitive structure, with the team currently 10th in the Teams’ Championship.

The news follows a senior leadership reshuffle at the start of 2025. McCullough was moved away from the Formula 1 project into a leadership role in another part of the business, where his focus was the expansion of the team’s broader range of racing categories. His previous Formula 1 responsibilities were taken on by Mike Krack, who assumed the position of Chief Trackside Officer.

McCullough’s next role has not been confirmed.

A decade of contribution across three team identities

McCullough began his Formula 1 career with Williams in 2002 as a data engineer. He later became a race engineer, working with Nico Hulkenberg, Rubens Barrichello and Bruno Senna.

After 10 years with Williams, he spent a short period at Sauber as Head of Track Engineering in 2013. He then returned to the United Kingdom to lead the trackside engineering team at Force India.

His tenure with the organisation coincided with some of its strongest results. Force India secured consecutive fourth-place finishes in 2016 and 2017, while Racing Point delivered its maiden victory under that name in 2020 and also finished fourth in the championship.

Aston Martin’s next phase

The team is now led by Adrian Newey, who holds the roles of Team Principal and Managing Technical Partner. Aston Martin brought a B-specification car to the most recent event in Hungary after running the slowest car for much of the season. The update represented a step forward, allowing the team to compete more closely in the midfield.

Further chassis developments are scheduled to debut at Monza and Baku, while engine partner Honda is expected to bring its first upgraded power unit of the season to the next race at Zandvoort. That development programme will now unfold alongside the departure of one of the organisation’s longest-serving senior engineers.

The change adds another layer to a period of transition for Aston Martin.
