The opening four rounds of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship have produced a level of competitive variety never previously seen in the current Hypercar/LMGT3 era. Four different cars have won overall: the #8 Toyota at Imola, the #20 BMW at Spa-Francorchamps, the #7 Toyota at Le Mans and the #15 BMW at Interlagos.
LMGT3 has followed the same pattern. Team WRT’s #69 BMW won at Imola, Garage 59’s #10 McLaren at Spa, TF Sport’s #33 Corvette at Le Mans and Racing Team Turkey by TF’s #34 Corvette at Interlagos. The result is eight different winners from the first four races, an unprecedented mark for the modern championship.

The early title fight has been equally fluid. Three separate crews — the #8 Toyota, #20 BMW and #7 Toyota — have led the world championship standings through the opening four rounds. The table is currently tied between Robin Frijns and René Rast in the #20 BMW and Toyota’s #7 trio of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries. On the two previous occasions when the standings were tied at the top, at Fuji in 2019 and 2022, the leading crew went on to win the title.

São Paulo’s Autódromo José Carlos Pace became the first circuit in FIA WEC history to produce five different overall winners in consecutive editions: Audi in 2013, Porsche in 2014, Toyota in 2024, Cadillac in 2025 and BMW in 2026.
The six-hour race also delivered a record 8,015 completed laps, while seven different Hypercars led — more than at any other event so far this season. That included the #17 Genesis, which enjoyed its first spell at the front of the order.
Spa provided the sharpest contrast in race execution. The championship-leading #20 BMW led for 62.9% of the distance, while the winning #10 McLaren did not lead a single lap — the first such result in LMGT3. Four of the season’s eight victories across both classes came from outside the top ten, with average winning grid positions of 7.75th in Hypercar and 11.5th in LMGT3.

The statistics also underline the depth of the field. Ten drivers have claimed breakthrough series victories, while four Hypercar marques and six LMGT3 manufacturers have reached the podium. The WEC’s growing crossover appeal is reflected in the expanding pool of drivers now competing successfully across major categories.
LMGT3’s pole-position curse continues: no category polesitter has converted qualifying into a podium for more than a year, with 13th the best result from pole in 2026. Meanwhile, top speeds reached 351.8 km/h in Hypercar and 304.5 km/h in LMGT3 at Le Mans, confirming a season already defined by records as well as remarkable parity.
