Formula 2 announces 14-round 2027 calendar with Istanbul and Mexico City debuts

The FIA Formula 2 Championship will contest 14 rounds across four continents in 2027, with Istanbul and Mexico City joining the calendar and Montreal returning after its successful addition in 2026. The two October events also fill out the late-season schedule, reducing the extended gap before the final rounds at Lusail and Yas Island.
The campaign begins in March at Sakhir, Bahrain, alongside Formula 1, before moving to Jeddah one week later. Melbourne follows, then Montreal — a returning stop detailed in F2’s 2026 calendar update.

Europe’s stretch starts in June in Monaco, followed in July by back-to-back rounds at Silverstone and Spielberg. After the summer break, September brings three consecutive events: Monza, Madrid and Baku. October’s new additions are Istanbul, Türkiye, and Mexico City, before the championship concludes with December rounds at Lusail and Yas Island.
New venues and a tighter finish
Istanbul will host its first Formula 2 race weekend at the demanding circuit, which is returning to the Formula 1 calendar. Mexico City’s inclusion was confirmed at a press conference attended by F2 CEO Bruno Michel, Mexico City Tourism Minister Alejandra Frausto, Mexican Grand Prix Managing Director Federico Gonzalez Compean, and drivers Rafael Villagomez and Noel Leon.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said the additions would bring the championship to new audiences and give emerging drivers a wider variety of circuits. Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali described F2 as a vital pathway to Formula 1, highlighting its role in giving young drivers a platform to demonstrate their ability.
Michel said the calendar’s expansion had been planned to remain financially sustainable. He added that Formula 2 would cover freight costs so the wider geographic reach would not create an additional financial impact for teams. The schedule, he said, offers teams and drivers a demanding, diverse season while broadening the championship’s international audience.
With a three-round September run followed by Istanbul and Mexico City, the 2027 calendar distributes its late-season races more evenly before the back-to-back finales in Qatar and the UAE.
