Oliver Rowland believes Formula E title is within reach in London
Rowland enters London with title still in play
Oliver Rowland arrives at the final two races of the 2025/26 Formula E world championship believing he has a realistic opportunity to defend his title. The Nissan driver sits fourth in the standings, only 14 points behind championship leader Jake Dennis, with a maximum of 58 points available across the London E-Prix weekend.
That gap leaves Rowland firmly in contention to become a two-time world champion. However, the mathematics leave little room for error. Dennis leads the standings ahead of Jaguarâs Mitch Evans and Porscheâs Pascal Wehrlein, meaning Rowland must outscore all three rivals. He also needs to gain at least 15 points on Dennis across the two races.
The scale of the challenge is clear, but so is the opportunity. Dennisâ position at the top of the standings makes him the benchmark, while Evans and Wehrlein remain substantial barriers between Rowland and another championship. Dennisâ own title ambitions add further weight to what promises to be a tightly contested finale.
Speaking to DIVEBOMBâs Owen Bradley, Rowland refused to place artificial limits on his chances.
âI guess anything is possible, 14 points is not a lot, you win both races, you win the championship. We just have to focus on doing the basics well, get some good results and stay out of trouble, see what the weekend brings. You can never script whatâs going to happen in these weekends.â
A decisive weekend for Formula Eâs current era
The London finale carries significance beyond the title fight. The two races will be the final events for Formula Eâs GEN3 cars and the last to be held in the London docklands, with the London E-Prix moving to Brands Hatch next season.
For Rowland, the venue already holds major personal significance. He won the final race of the 2023/24 season in London in front of his home crowd and celebrated his championship victory at the London E-Prix last season. A successful title defence would give the Nissan driver another defining moment at the ExCeL Arena.
Rowland acknowledged that the weekend marks the close of an important chapter, while also looking ahead to Formula Eâs next phase.
âThereâs a lot of positive things happening in the distance. I think GEN3, four-wheel drive, London, was a good era for Formula E but we have some exciting things coming up. I will miss it a little bit, but thereâs also a lot to look forward to.â
The first of the two London races begins on Saturday, 15 August, at 15:05 local time. For Rowland, the equation is straightforward: execute cleanly, score heavily and keep the championship within reach until the final chequered flag.
