Sebastian Montoya has been handed a 10-second time penalty following the FIA Formula 2 Feature Race at Monza, with the sanction dropping the PREMA Racing driver to P18 in the final classification.
The Colombian was investigated for his role in contact with Car 4, driven by Colton Herta, on the approach to Turn 8. The incident became one of the race’s post-event decisions as the Stewards reviewed the circumstances surrounding the collision before issuing their verdict.
After the race, the Stewards heard evidence from both drivers involved and from representatives of their respective teams. They also examined video footage of the incident before reaching their conclusion.
Their determination was clear: Car 11 was considered wholly responsible for the contact. The Stewards judged that Montoya’s movement was reactionary rather than defensive, a distinction that formed the basis of the penalty.
As a result, a 10-second addition was applied to Montoya’s race time. The decision changed his official result from his position at the chequered flag to P18 in the revised classification.
The ruling underlines how quickly the outcome of a Formula 2 race can change after the chequered flag, particularly when an on-track move is assessed by the Stewards as a response to developing circumstances rather than a deliberate defensive action. Monza had already produced a busy Formula 2 weekend, including the earlier penalties handed to multiple drivers after qualifying, and Montoya’s post-race sanction adds another official decision to the event.
Montoya’s revised result is now recorded as P18 following the 10-second penalty. The decision follows the Stewards’ finding that his reactionary move directly caused the contact with Herta’s Car 4 on the run to Turn 8.
