
The updated track map for the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix confirms four Straight Mode zones around the Hungaroring, together with one Overtake Mode detection point and a separate activation point near the final corner.
These markings replace the familiar DRS layout used in previous seasons and reflect the new active aerodynamics and electrical energy systems introduced under the 2026 Formula 1 regulations.


The four designated sections are positioned around the most acceleration-dependent parts of the 4.381-kilometre circuit:

Straight Mode changes the configuration of both the front and rear wings, reducing drag as the cars accelerate towards maximum speed. Unlike the previous DRS system, its availability is not based on the gap to another car. When enabled, every driver can use the low-drag aerodynamic configuration inside the designated zones.
The main straight remains the most significant zone because it leads into the heavy braking area at Turn 1. However, the additional sections should also help the cars regain speed more efficiently around a circuit dominated by medium-speed and low-speed corners.
The map places the Overtake Mode detection point between Turns 13 and 14, shortly before the final corner. The activation point is positioned around the exit of Turn 14, as the cars begin accelerating onto the main straight.
A driver who is within the prescribed detection gap, normally one second, when crossing the detection line becomes eligible for Overtake Mode at the activation point. The system provides an additional electrical power profile and allows up to 0.5MJ of extra energy to be recharged, helping the attacking car sustain greater speed for longer.
Unlike DRS, Overtake Mode is not restricted to a particular straight. Once activated, the driver can use the additional electrical performance strategically during the following lap, either in one concentrated deployment or across several sections of the circuit.
Placing the detection point before Turn 14 means drivers must remain close through the slow and technical final sector. Traction through Turns 13 and 14 will therefore influence whether an attacking car receives Overtake Mode for the next lap.
The activation point should create the most immediate opportunity on the main straight into Turn 1, but drivers could preserve some of the available energy for later sections, including the Straight Mode zones approaching Turns 2, 4 and 12.
The updated layout gives drivers more tools than the previous single-purpose DRS system. Straight Mode improves aerodynamic efficiency for every car, while Overtake Mode provides the following driver with the additional electrical performance required to launch or extend an attack.
At a circuit where qualifying position and clean air remain particularly valuable, the interaction between the four Straight Mode zones, the detection point before Turn 14 and the activation point onto the main straight could become one of the defining technical elements of the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix.
