Alex Quinn promoted to Peugeot’s 2027 WEC Hypercar line-up

Peugeot has promoted Alex Quinn to a full-time Hypercar race seat for the 2027 World Endurance Championship, rewarding a season in which the Briton has contributed as a test and development driver while building an impressive record in LMP2.
The appointment was announced on Thursday, days after Quinn secured the IMSA SportsCar Championship LMP2 title with CrowdStrike by APR. He will join Peugeot’s Hypercar squad after first driving the 9X8 at last November’s Bahrain rookie test. The team then brought him into its programme as a ‘seventh driver’, a pathway that preceded Malthe Jakobsen’s own step up to a race seat.

From development role to race seat
Quinn said the promotion was a long-held ambition and that his work with the team at its factory and during testing had helped prepare him for a full-time campaign.
“Stepping up to a full-time race seat is something I am incredibly excited about and something I feel ready for after my recent successes in other championships,” he said. “I am extremely grateful to everyone at Team Peugeot TotalEnergies for this opportunity.”

The 25-year-old began in single-seaters, winning races in British F3 and Renault Eurocup before moving to Formula Regional Europe in 2021. He switched to sportscar racing in 2023 and has since competed in IMSA and the European Le Mans Series. Though new to the WEC, Quinn has raced at Le Mans in each of the past three seasons and won the LMP2 Pro/Am category this year.

Team principal Emmanuel Esnault said Quinn had shown strong ability in the 9X8 during testing and pointed to his LMP2 achievements, including wins at Le Mans and Daytona, as well as in IMSA and ELMS. Peugeot described the promotion as its second move to bring a young driver from LMP2 into an LMH race role. Quinn is set to race the evolved 9X8; Peugeot’s planned 2027 9X8 evolution is also part of the team’s preparations for the season.
Peugeot’s 2027 reshuffle
Quinn’s arrival comes amid a significant change to Peugeot’s driver roster. Stoffel Vandoorne has left following last month’s Fuji event, while Theo Pourchaire is due to depart at year-end to focus on his new commitments with Opel in Formula E. Jakobsen is also understood to be leaving for McLaren’s Hypercar programme.
Peugeot has confirmed Quinn and Robert Shwartzman for 2027, with Jean-Eric Vergne expected to return to a race seat after focusing on testing duties this year. With three seats to fill, Quinn’s promotion is one part of a broader rebuild around the next version of the 9X8.
