Malthe Jakobsen will leave Peugeot after the Monza WEC finale, ending a programme that began with the team’s junior ranks and led to a full-time Hypercar seat. The Dane is set to contest his final race for Team Peugeot TotalEnergies at the 6 Hours of Monza.

Jakobsen joined Peugeot in 2023 after impressing at the 2022 WEC Rookie test in Bahrain, where he was the quickest rookie. His European Le Mans Series LMP3 success had also drawn the manufacturer’s attention. He became an official reserve driver in 2024 before stepping up to a race seat the following season.

Jakobsen’s Peugeot career grew into a full-time Hypercar role

In 2025, Jakobsen shared the No.94 9X8 with Loïc Duval and Stoffel Vandoorne. The trio’s strongest result cited during his Peugeot tenure was third place at Lone Star Le Mans at the Circuit of The Americas.

He retained his seat in 2026 and secured the 9X8’s first pole position in the season’s second round at Spa-Francorchamps. A subsequent incident involving an LMGT3 car denied Jakobsen and the team a possible podium.

Across his two full-time seasons, Jakobsen scored 40 points. Peugeot’s car did not consistently finish in the points, but team leadership praised the driver’s commitment and performances. Jakobsen described the team as a major part of his development, from junior racer to WEC driver, and highlighted competing in the top category at Le Mans as a career memory.

Peugeot’s 2027 plans take shape as Jakobsen departs

Team principal Emmanuel Esnault and Stellantis motorsport director Olivier Jansonnie both thanked Jakobsen for his contribution and progress, while wishing him well for the future. The team will now look to end the partnership with a strong result at Monza.

The announcement comes as Peugeot’s 2027 line-up develops. Reserve driver Alex Quinn has been promoted to the team’s Hypercar roster, while Robert Shwartzman is also set to return to the WEC Hypercar ranks with Peugeot.

Jakobsen currently has no confirmed Hypercar drive for 2027. He has been linked with McLaren’s WEC MCL-HY programme, potentially alongside compatriot and former Peugeot driver Mikkel Jensen, but no move has been confirmed.
