Pirelli’s 2027 F1 tyre test continues at the Hungaroring

Three teams remain on track after Hungarian Grand Prix

The Hungaroring has remained active after the Hungarian Grand Prix, with Alpine, Audi and Aston Martin taking part in a Pirelli tyre test focused on the development of compounds planned for the 2027 Formula 1 season.

The work also extended beyond the C3 specification. Colapinto and Bortoleto evaluated several C4 and C5 compound variants through qualifying simulations and higher-mileage running, adding both short-run performance data and information from more sustained stints. The testing therefore combined outright pace assessment with the degradation analysis required to identify the strongest candidates for further development.

The programme fits into Pirelli’s wider effort to define its future tyre range; the company’s recent compound selections for Zandvoort, Monza and Madrid underline the importance of matching tyre behaviour to the demands of each circuit.

Colapinto leads Tuesday’s timing

Bortoleto completed the most laps on Tuesday, recording 141 tours of the Hungaroring. His best time of 1m 20.813s, however, was surpassed by Colapinto, who set the day’s quickest lap with a 1m 20.371s effort after completing 128 laps.

Crawford logged 136 laps and recorded a fastest time of 1m 24.598s. The differing mileage totals reflect the test’s emphasis on data collection rather than a conventional competitive classification, with the drivers completing varied tyre and run programmes.

Testing continues on the following day for Colapinto and Bortoleto, who are scheduled to repeat a programme similar to Tuesday’s running as Pirelli continues its evaluation of the 2027 compounds.
