Formula E brings forward 2027 Monaco E-Prix to avoid WEC clash

Formula E has brought forward the 2027 Monaco E-Prix by two weeks to avoid a direct clash with the World Endurance Championship. The double-header will now take place on 1 and 2 May 2027, one week before Formula Eâs scheduled visit to Berlin.
Monaco had originally been listed as the 10th and 11th rounds of the 2026/27 season on 15 and 16 May â the same weekend as the WECâs race at Spa-Francorchamps. That overlap threatened to create a serious logistical problem for drivers competing in both championships, particularly because Spa traditionally serves as a key preparation event for the Le Mans 24 Hours.
The revised sequence removes the Monaco-Spa conflict, but it does not create an easy run for multi-category drivers. With Monaco moved ahead of Berlin, competitors racing in both series now face three consecutive race weekends across Monaco, Berlin and Spa.
The calendar change also provides a clearer lead-in to Formula Eâs new technical era. The 2026/27 season will be the championshipâs first to feature Gen4 machinery. Its opening event is scheduled for Jeddah on 18 and 19 December, subject to an improvement in the geopolitical situation in the Middle East. The significance of the new era is also reflected in the latest driver-market movement, including Theo Pourchaireâs expected move to Opel for Formula Eâs Gen4 era.
Shanghai and SĂŁo Paulo overlap remains
Formula E and the WEC will still share one weekend in 2027. The Shanghai E-Prix, scheduled for 10 and 11 July, remains aligned with the WECâs SĂŁo Paulo round. As a result, some drivers competing in both championships will still be forced to choose between the two events.
That unresolved clash means the amended calendar is a targeted solution rather than a complete separation of the two series. Monaco is protected from the most problematic overlap, but the wider schedule continues to demand careful planning from drivers and teams operating across both championships.
Monaco agreement extended through 2031
Formula E has also extended its agreement with the Automobile Club de Monaco, securing the championshipâs presence in the principality until at least 2031.
Monaco has become one of Formula Eâs most important events, with the series using the same grand prix layout as Formula 1. Alberto Longo, Formula Eâs co-founder and chief championship officer, described the Circuit de Monaco as an unmatched motorsport stage and said the next-generation event promised increased speeds, more overtaking and intense wheel-to-wheel racing.
